The United States has recently been invaded by different opinions on how they should support Iran. The Middle Eastern conflicts involving the US have been a touchy subject recently. The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke on March third to Congress on Capitol Hill. The dramatic speech made the issue in Congress and the White House a more complicated issue.
Netanyahu’s speech has made the executive branch of the US try to speed up the ruling in order to aid Iran and their military power. Although this isn’t the response Netanyahu was hoping for, his speech did turn the Congress’s vote a little. This complicated the process of the agreement passing because now the president does not want to go through Congress to seek approval. This is because the executive branch knows that the Congress could veto the agreement.
The Prime Minister’s speech was so empowering that Real Clear Politics, a popular online news provider, referred to it as similar to Churchill’s 1941 address to the Canadian House of Commons. Churchill’s speech empowered Canada to fight against the Axis powers in WW2 and helped the Allies win the war. Netanyahu presented his opinion on how the US should handle the Iran conflict from a relatable and experienced approach since Israel has had many conflicts with Iran since there distinction as a state. His agreement was clear cut. Iran is at its most radical stage currently and providing aid would fund there nuclear missile inventory and create a nuclear disaster in the Middle East.
The speech has also stirred up conflict back home in Israel. Some even rally in Tel Aviv to protest Netanyahu as a leader and advocate that “Israel wants change”. The reason for this is because some Israelis believe Netanyahu’s mission to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is not as important as other presiding issues in Israel today.
There is no doubt that the Iran Deal is risky and that Iran could potentially misuse American money, and obviously aid there nuclear arsenal. This deal is testing Iran governmental legitimacy, and could have any type of result. The US is attempting to discover the truth behind Iranian nuclear power. President Obama even said, “If we are able to verify that in fact they are not developing weapons systems, then there’s a deal to be had.”
Although Netanyahu gave a valiant effort, it is still looking like the Iran Deal will follow through. The United States has a few very crucial decisions to make soon that will rewrite the history of US-Middle East relations. With a clear signal from the President, since he didn’t attend Netanyahu’s speech, it might not look clear towards what the US-Israel relation will be towards the future. Although Congress has put considerable effort in the past 30 years towards strengthening ties with Israel, it might all break down in the upcoming months. How will the Greater Middle East participation in NATO look after the Iran Plan has been settled?
